What makes a poem a poem? Most simply, a poem can be defined as having lines that are interrupted. Master this make-or-break aspect of poetry that is often overlooked: the line break. Writers at beginning to advanced stages will explore this key poetic device and generate their own poems for workshop feedback. Delving into the tonal effects of enjambment, the course will address multiple forms, including the ghazal, open field spacing, and the persona poem, both in writing instruction and in readings. If you want to improve pacing, formal structure, and clarity of tone in your writing, this is the course for you!
