PCA&M: Other Worlds in Our Minds: Writing Dreams in Poetry

Dreams can be surreal and sensory, sometimes interpreted, sometimes forgotten. In contemporary poems, dreams are often included as moments of self-reflection, and there are many implications to this writerly choice. In this class we will consider the use of dreams in poems and their impact on reader. We will explore surreal modes of language and storytelling that often thread a dream poem. We will read and discuss dream poems by published poets, and write our own dream poems in response. Students will be asked to keep a dream journal during the duration of the class. Come with pen, paper, and a readiness to look inward!
